PBSSS Code of Conduct

Personal Appearance

1.     This shall be directed by the club.

2.     The swimmer shall be expected to wear a dark coloured costume and a club cap at all club galas. The team manager shall direct the team as to the wearing of team kit, when assembling, travelling, at functions or as otherwise described.

Attendance

  1. Members will be advised by their Coach as to the number of sessions that they will be required to attend.

2.     If prior notice is possible, it is expected that you inform the Coach if it is not possible to attend any sessions or galas.

3.     It is essential that swimmers are punctual at all times and ready to start the session when instructed by the coach.

Personal Conduct and Behaviour

  1. Any behaviour or personal conduct that is not of a high standard or does not project a favourable image of the sport or club shall be deemed as totally unacceptable.
  2. Swimmers must at all times, listen to and follow instructions delivered by their instructor or the pool lifeguard.
  3. Language in all situations whilst engaged in any activities with the club must be appropriate and socially acceptable.
  4. Swimmers will be expected to train to the best of their ability at all times (except when there are injuries or any other debilitating circumstances) if this is not possible then the coach must always be kept informed prior to any training sessions/galas.
  5. Fighting, dangerous horseplay, disobedience, vandalism, persistent bad language and drug or alcohol abuse will lead to instant suspension of Club membership and may lead to further action outside the Club.
  6. Swimmers are expected to be on poolside at least five minutes before the start of their session and use the time for dry land warm-up and stretching exercises.  This warm-up session must be done in an area that will not inconvenience people involved in the session presently under way or the general public.  Swimmers will be invited on to the end of the pool by the controller of their session and must be ready to swim when instructed.

 

Parent / Carer Responsibilities

1.     Parents must refrain from entering poolside during training or competition unless invited to do so by the coach. If a parent/carer wishes to speak to the coach, he / she must wait until the end of the session.

2.     Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials and coaches.

  1. Abide by the guidelines issued by the club.
  2. Unless the swimmer trains with the senior squad, the parent / guardian shall not leave the child’s training session, unless they can pass the parental responsibility to another parent / guardian on poolside.
  3. Swimmers dropped off early or picked up late remain the responsibility of the parents / guardians. The club accepts no responsibility for children left in this way.

 

Disciplinary Procedures

If the Team Manager, Coach or Committee feel that the above Code of Conduct is not adhered to (by swimmer / parent / guardian / coach) then the following procedure will be put into place: 

  1. 1st time of breaking the Code of Conduct:  Verbal warning
  1. 2nd time of breaking the Code of Conduct:  Asked to leave the session/Gala or activity taking place at the time.

Letter (sent to the parent/guardian for all aged under 18, for 18’s and over the letter will be sent directly to the person concerned) will be sent to inform of the immediate suspension from the session/gala will follow. 

  1. 3rd time of breaking the Code of Conduct:  Suspension from the club for a period of time, determined by the Committee.

A suspension letter from the club will follow in all cases.

N.B If the Committee deem it fit that a swimmer should be moved into another group in order to address the problems occurring then this must be accepted by the offending swimmer/parent/guardian.

 

 

 Any explanations or mitigating circumstances will be listened to sympathetically and appeals against disciplinary action can be made to the Club Committee and the Amateur Swimming Association.
